Shamir Tandon a very passionate entrepreneur and is the only cost accountant and management graduate to be a music director in Bollywood. He quit a plum corporate job as the Country Head at Emi Virgin to pursue his passion for music.

As a young lad, Shamir was always singing in school and college festivals and composing his own songs. Keeping it aside as a hobby, he went on to do his MBA and  Cost Accountancy and started his career in Merchant Banking.

It was during his successful tenure in the corporate that he decided to take up his passion for music and make it into a full-fledged career.

Shamir is the first musician of his family. His father was in the Indian Railways, his mother was a teacher and brother a Chartered Accountant.

He isn’t musically trained but makes up for it  by constantly learning and exploring different genres of music.

Shamir started working with the multinational company Virgin EMI Records in 1998. In his 9 years stint at Virgin, he grew from a marketing manager to a country head, reporting directly to Singapore. He was responsible for marketing and distributing global acts ranging from the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Frank Sinatra to Norah Jones, Robbie Williams and Kylie Minogue. He was also instrumental in bringing down to India bands and singers such as Deep Purple, Rolling Stones, Richard Clayderman and Michael Learns to Rock.

Given that he spent 12 glorious years of his corporate life before diving into music, it allowed him to see the best of both worlds.

Shamir has been blessed to have legends sing under his baton. He is the only music director in this generation who has made all living legends sing for him, namely - Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Manna Dey, Jagjit Singh, Bhupinder Singh, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and many more.

He has done more than 150 ADVERTISING JINGLES for POPULAR BRANDS such as Ambuja Cement, Idea, Big Bazaar, ICICI, Pepsi, Samsonite, SBI, LIC, Airtel and more.

He composed the anthem for the 2007 Cricket World Cup where he made 11 leading singers sing together in one song.

He released a unique song for anti-piracy and got the top singers of bollywood to collaborate together on the track. This was the first time ever a song on anti piracy had been created.

His non film album for the Top 4 winners of Indian Idol 6 , called the Fab Four, comprised 5 original tracks and 4 special renditions of the winning song ‘Pal’, for each of the winners.

Shamir likes to blend old school music with new influences.

He has collaborated with many international artists like Boyband Blue for the song ONE LOVE which featured Abhishek Bhachchan and Bipasha Basu and he brought together International Popstar Enrique Iglesias and  Indian diva Sunidhi Chauhan for the track ‘Heartbeat’ which has featured in Enrigue’s  album in 2012 -13.

His first break in Bollywood was with National Award winning film PAGE 3 in 2005. His songs Huzoor E Ala and Kitne Ajeeb Rishte Hain Yahaan Pe were much loved by Asha Bhosle and Lata Mangeshkar who lent their voice for these  compositions.

After the success of Page 3, he went on to give music for Corporate and Traffic Signal which were by film maker Madhur Bhandarkar.

He has also worked with other big names in the industry like Balaji Films, UTV Motion Pictures, Disney,  Ashtvinayak, Shemaroo, Sahara, Viacom 18, Percept, Sangeet Sivan , Satish Kaushik, Sanjay Gupta, Sanjay Leela Bhansali etc.

His versatility ranging from the thought provoking Lamha Lamha Zindagi Hai to the energetic musical qawali - O Sikander which was one of the biggest hits in 2006 and sung by the sufi singer Kailash Kher under Shamir, have been highly  appreciated.

Whilst persuing his passion in music, Shamir has kept his corporate consulting hat on, and has done many projects for many brands, production houses and agencies.

He consulted with Mauj for 2 years and recorded songs with legends like Pyarelal (Laxmikant Pyarelal) and Asha Bhonsle. He also commissioned songs to all leading music directors in the country like Jatin Lalit, Aadesh Srivastav, Ismail Darbar, Sandesh Shandelier and many more to create a robust repertoire of more than 60 songs.

Currently he is consulting for the world's numero uno label  -Universal Music Group  for their A&R and Digital music space.

During his tenure as a consultant with Universal Music (Asia Pacific Region), his biggest achievement has been the artist repertoire and music consultancy for Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's latest album Back To Love. The lead song of this album Zaroori Tha has crossed a stupendous 100 Million+ views in less than two years making it the most popular non-film track competing with a handful leading Bollywood tracks and still going strong. This album also won Rahat Sahab Mirchi and GIMA Awards which is also a great feather on tha cap of the head consultant of A&R Shamir Tandon.
